He never lets on...that he's anchoring himself to her sense of wonder to keep from being completely swept away.

Wow. This makes me ache. Brilliant.

That's SO my take on their relaitonship, wrapped up in a 1200 word little ficlet. The balance opf power is very tipepd in ROse's favour, and bless her, she has NO IDEA.
Lysfalzalot on 8th June 2005 04:45 (UTC)
Oh wow. This was wonderful. Though as much as I totally love this, I have to pretend the entire "gallifrey is destroyed" thing is an AU or I'll depress myself. :->
ljc: lost (doctor)taraljc on 9th June 2005 15:09 (UTC)

Well, the arc of the seasons seems to be the Time War, so hopefully we'll get more plot re: Gallifrey go BOOM in the next two weeks.

(I'm actually still sorta hoping it went BOOM and stays went BOOM, cos it makes things hella interesting...)

Oh gods. And I never even particularly *liked* Susan all that much. I'm still crying for her. And the Doc.

Shit. Now I wanna write angsty TARDIS fic.
ljc: doctor who MIBtaraljc on 9th June 2005 15:11 (UTC)
I never really knew Susan as a character (I've only actiually seen her in "The Five Doctors") but I'm very taken with her as an idea. The one member of the Doctor's family he was close with, the one who WASN'T on Gallifrey when it went BOOM, the one he whose loss he would feel most keenly... So that lends Susan more impact in non-existance than she might actually have had, on her own...

This blasted ficathon: I've read so many brilliant stories I'm running out of new ways to say "Holy crap, you just knocked me on my heels with that, and no, I just have something in my eye." If I had a new way to say that, I'd be saying it to you.

I am SO digging the explosion of really great fic in the last fortnight. I am also utterly, utterly behind in recs.... So much good stuff, I agree. I want to send Raven chocolates for getting us all together.

Wow. Absolutely beautiful. I especially liked the moment of the Doctor seeing Rose again from outside the restaurant.

And Susan! Gah...
ljc: TARDIS callingtaraljc on 9th June 2005 15:15 (UTC)
I re-watched "Rose" a bit ago with my emma, and I watched his face when he told her to forget him. He *so* meant it. And so I was dead curious what his reaction might have been, when he tracked the Nestene COnsciousness and it led him to Rose *again.* He seems to have embraced the concept of having her remember him by the time he leads her straight to the TARDIS...

Oh my god, that just broke my heart. It's so beautiful, so sad! *reels*

To say 'wow' would not cover it- this is fantastic, beautifully written!

That is just so... so perfect. I'm stunned and lost for words.

In all honesty I was hoping for smut, but what I got was much, much better than that. You've captured the Doctor just so and this made me cry for him, for Rose.

"He never tells her, even when she asks, because he's afraid she'll let go of his hand and he'll go spinning off into the void."

Thank you.
ljc: teh hawt sex (doctor/rose)taraljc on 9th June 2005 15:43 (UTC)
I went back and forth and back and forth on the smut thing for about a week--mainly cos I know you like it, but the request didn't mention it, and there's been such an explosion of good smut in the last 2 weeks in the fandom, so I decided to go a diff. way. And I was so worried that it being more angst than fluff would disappoint you. I'm so incredibly glad you like it! yay!

this is awesome, such a great character study!
ljc: edison/theorataraljc on 9th June 2005 15:44 (UTC)
thanks so much! It's not my usual style but I had so much fun with it, and I'm still surprised at the amount of response I've got to it...

You're my favorite fix when it comes to 9/R fanfic.

Lovely angsty Doctor there. And:

He's used to consorting with aliens of all shapes and sizes, dispositions and temperaments, but is utterly confounded by a 19 year old earthling with horrible taste in men and questionable taste in clothing.

just sums the pair of them up.

ljc: doctor who MIBtaraljc on 9th June 2005 15:50 (UTC)
yay! i tweaked that bit endlessly. so glad it worked!

I've never seen any of the Hartnell episodes--so I'm hunting up the novelisations. I did see Susan in 5 Doctors, tho--and I'm admittedly am more in love with the idea of Susan than Susan as a character, in the wake of Gallifrey going BOOM. But also the parallels are interesting to me (I think Rose marks the first instance since Susan that the Doctor's had a single teenaged girl as a companion with no male chaperones...).
