Keep Calm and Carry On.
So before anyone freaks out, while I'm locking down my journal, I will be unlocking the fanfic, fanart, meta, and icon posts. If you're here for those, then no worries!

I am just doing some online house-cleaning this month, is all.

Thanks for the word of warning.
I admit those things are mostly why I'm here (or what brought me here, anyway), and I'm glad to hear that they'll remain open.
I hope that this goes well for you.

I friended you because I wanted to see your fanfic pop up on my f-list, please don't feel any obligation to friend me in return. Thanks, btw, for keeping all the fandom stuff public - I really appreciate it!

In light of discovering portions of one of my unlocked posts showing up in an academic text (completely out of context) I decided it was time.

I've nearly a decade of fannish geeking up here, and the idea of moving journals kinda broke my brain. Plus I've some stuff with my freelance career that necessitates a little more distance between my fannish LJ and my pro LJ, which also needed to happen for real. So... it's time :)

However, I know a lot of folks watch me for the fanworks and meta, and so I plan of keeping those unlocked for as long as I can. But even if I were to, I do archive on my website (well, the fanfic, anyway).

Wow. Where'd it pop up? What academic text? Can I ask that?

It was this, which did not thrill me. I don't have an issue with being excerpeted under the guidelines of fair use. Mostly, it was the "out of context" thing that pissed me off. Because it maked me look like I was saying something other than what I was actually saying.

Ugh. Did you send the author a sharp note, at least, complaining about it? (Sorry this has happened to you!)

The book's been out for years, and I doubt it will go back to press. And frankly, I doubt she'd care. I save up for sharply worded notes for battles I think I can win, truth be told.

Ugh. Sorry :(

Mainly recently I've been reading the fanworklike fan fiction, although I originally friended you to keep up with the fannish activities of and around the town.

This makes a lot of sense. Do you have to do each entry individually, or can you edit the journal as a whole?
ljc: star trek (hell yeah blue nails)taraljc on 5th March 2010 01:45 (UTC)
I locked down all the public entries, and then went by tag unlocking them one at a time.

I really, really really wish that you could set the security for posts via tag, instead of date range.

(Tho at least, with a permanent paid account, I could lock by date range, which came in damned useful when I imported my old blog entries to my pro journal.)

In some cases it's locking the barn door after the horse has bolted, but I figure better late than never. And I'm pretty sure the fic is here to stay.

I friended you for the fic, mostly, so thank you for keeping that part unlocked!

*waves* I occasionally used your "useful mandarin redux" post for reference while writing Firefly fic and RP. Would you consider unlocking that? If not that's fine and I completely understand the impulse to lock things down, but I thought I'd ask. <3

No problem, it's unlocked now!
