Cameron's perspective is very intriguing, because it gives us her reasonings and logical motivations for her actions, while simulataneously offering us a chance to interpret those actions as an observer, the way John would, for example. It's the ambiguity of their relationship that I find fascinating, and it's present in this fic in the way we have Cameron's 'mechanical' POV, but we come at it from our (and therefore John's) 'human' POV.

I really enjoyed this.

That's exactly what I was going for--to be somewhat ambiguous, yet still very Cameron. I love that the series gives us such layered stuff to work with, too. It's a joy to extrapolate from.

Wonderful. I adore the ways this show makes alternate universes and causality into a giant playground for my imagination. And the idea of John suffering from nightmares makes so much sense - Cameron comforting him kind of terrifies me, but I love it too.

The show makes a huge deal of Sarah's nightmares cos she's our POV character, but I'm thinking, the night John is told very matter-of-factly that his mother died? Hello insomnia. Especially considering that in my head, he learned how to deal with emotional trauma from his mum. Which means burying ti deep and trying to just maintain. And it's easier for a 33 year old woman to do that, than a 15 year old boy with teh weight of the world on his shoulders.

But I love love love that we really start to see the man John becomes emerging in the final few eps, especially re: Derek. The way John just went from soldier to leader in "Vick's Chip" really fascinates me. How Derek fell in line, not out of deference, but out of respect. Yet he still knwos how to treat John like a 15 year old kid who grew up without a dad. And like Sarah, Derek is gonna fight to protect John to hold onto a part of Kyle, too. And that's AWESOME and hardcore.

I love the Reese-Connor clan. I really do.

Oh, I loved this! The Cameron POV was just spot on and I like how she had learned by the end, even if John doesn't realize it. Great job.

I just love the idea of that transition being about part of how John is growing up, too. And I do think that John and Cameron will keep on bonding, not necessarily in a love-interest way (tho I can still see shades of that from John), but in a way that mirrors Sarah and Reese most definitely.

That's my take on the temporal mechanics, although sometimes I fear the writers haven't thought it out.

Cameron helping John sleep at the end was very sweet. And the opening very amusing.
ljc: SCC (connors)taraljc on 16th March 2008 23:45 (UTC)
I think it's complicated. By introducing the idea that Skynet replaced Barbara's husband (rather than teh T-888 seducing Barbara, which was what I got from teh "you've been so different sicne your car accident" line) that adds a whole new element to what is known abotu this timeline, in the future before Cameron and Derek are sent back. Because there's a LOT of stuff that really supports the idea that both John and Skynet sent humans and terminatros back *knowing* what was going to happen, rather than blindly. And that changes the whole landscape.

I am an odd duck where temporal mechanics are concerned, tho. I've spent the last 30 years sort of obsessed with it, and still curse T2 for not thinking the science through *at all* when Jim Cameron decided to have Sarah *create* Skynet by her actions in T1. Which means John sending Kyle back *creates* Skynet. Which I really quite sincerely doubt he intended to say, with the film.

I love that Cameron just doesn't understand that reminding people of their own mortality fucks them up. She's trying to help, but her total lack of understanding of what it means to be human fascinates me, and I really hope she keeps her "alienness" as the series goes on.

Thanks so much! Getting my feet wet in a new fandom also that fun mix of absolute fucking terror and gleeful abandon. I'm poking other stories, and hope to have more SCCfic soon....

This is... just. It's awesome. I second (third, fourth whatever) all the comments about your Cameron voice, it's spot on. And I love all the little details, the whole 20cm thing and the way it seems so much more that she sits 21cm away after he left. The snippets of conversation are so well written, I could practically hear the characters, and even more than that, the way you've worked Cameron's mind is brilliant too.

Particularly, I love the ending, that final section is perfect.

Great story! :)

♥ I love cameron, and how she is slowly (both in your fic and canon) expanding her own humanity so this was perfect for me. The small details add to a very in-character voice... even an emotional john is spot on!
And oh, your little scientific meta made me go all *squee* because, yes, there is hope, even in what would appear to be a straight-forward paradox. Intriguing dude, thanks!

Wow - I really liked this. You did such a convincing job with Cameron's character, especially. And I loved the tender gesture as she comforted him. Even if she didn't see it that way. :-)

I wonder if you might allow me to record this for the amplificathon that's currently going on? I would link to the text and encourage comments for you. Also, I'd definitely send you the link to the finished product when I'm done.

I have a bunch of podfics at http://twasadark.googlepages.com/audiofic if you'd like to hear a sample of my work.

Hope to hear from you!

That is so flattering--I'd be honoured. I've never been podfic'd before, and I'm really excited to hear the results. Please feel free (you can actually link to here in my archive rather than LJ).
