Okay, I've finally found out that you can read del.icio.us feeds on LJ. So given that I am complete crap at updating my recs in a timely fashion, you can see them as I bookmark them on your flist by adding this feed to your flist.
Bear in mind... these are not detailed recs. They tend to just be a link and a summary. So you're taking your life in your hands if you don't read stories without an MPAA-style rating, or pairing codes, or whatnot.
But I figured, yay technology yay.

Gemini Rising by
aj
Summary: She is new, but not so very different.
Why You Should Read It: Set during "Rose", this is just a lovely look at the Doctor embracing the universe's insistence that he take a new companion, and noticing something familiar about Rose.
The One With The Launderette by
__kali__
Summary: A flying visit to Earth to do laundry with Jack Harkness.
Why You Should Read It: Adorable little Jack & Rose domestic snippet, with nod to a popular jeans advert. What would Jack Harkness fanfic be, without gratuitous nudity?
What Does the Sky Reply? by
cadhla
Summary: Beautiful POTW tag, with Rose coming to grips with the regeneration thanks to an old friend.
Why You Should Read It: I kept thinking I'd rec'd this before, because it's just gorgeous. And it has Ace. And it's exactly perfect.
Marbella, 1989 by
the_royal_anna
Summary: Set during "POTW." The Doctor and Rose visit Marbella in 1989. Sort of.
Why You Should Read It: A gorgeous look at what might have been, while Rose is part of the Vortex.
Mortal by
booster17
Summary: What about those people swept up in the Doctor's trail? People have a nasty habit of dying when he's around.
Why You Should Read It: Nifty little peek into the mind of a nameless, faceless victim of the Slitheen in "Aliens of London/World War Three."
Baker Street by
rhipowered
Summary: Rose and the Doctor cope, adjust, and move on--but things aren't that simple.
Why You Should Read It: There are a lot of "And suddenly, Rose remembers everything" stories, but what I like about this one is the bits of characterisation that make it unique. Like Ten's pyjama bottoms. Also, I like how Rhi plays with language.
And So We Meet Again by
chicklet73
Summary: On Satellite 5, someone is the unwitting subject of a rescue mission...
Why You Should Read It: I am so pleased folks have remembered that there are something like 100 Big Brother houses, all with fully stocked kitchens on the Gamestation. Also, I am just a little bit in love with Jack in this. And yes, I do think flirting like mad is exactly the first thing he would do when face-to-face with a stranger in a natty pinstriped suit. Excellent Jack voice, and just so much fun to read. It almost makes having to wait another year bearable.
All That Is by
jeanne_dark
Summary: Watching and learning and finding what matters.
Why You Should Read It: The POTW ficathon spawned a large number of stories with similar plots and themes, but the majority of them have focused on Rose, and her reactions to the Doctor's regeneration. It's nice to see something from the Doctor's POV, and this just does a beautiful job of exploring how he handles the change as well.
The More Things Change by
icebluenothing
Summary: After the Doctor's regeneration, Rose has adjusted -- but can Mickey?
Why You Should Read It: I absolutely love Mickey being, as always, a page behind. And also the voice of reason. After all, just cos we get regeneration, and even Rose might (fuelled no doubt by her own needs and desires), that's no reason to expect Mickey to just play right along. Beautiful characterisation, and excellent ear for dialogue. Poor Mickey. Time travelling isn't so much a victimless crime, and you can have such empathy for him, here, without him being pathetic. Which shows a lovely light touch. And you feel awful for him, cos while anything can and would happen, Rose coming back to him and them ever being the same again really isn't one of them.
Time's Scythe by
calapine
Summary: The Doctor has one final journey to make.
Why You Should Read It: It's definitely a "you make your own hell" sort of situation, and I hope that Time Lords don't actually have to go through an afterlife like this, but the concept and execution pretty much blew my ass away. The Ninth Doctor's story was very much about loss, but this story is about fear, and it shows that that's hardly unique to any one incarnation of the Doctor. I found the sequence with the Second Doctor particularly chilling for some reason. And I love the interaction between the different incarnations as a way of dealing with one person who just happens to show ten different faces to the world. All of them running.
From This Day to the Ending of the World by
icebluenothing
Summary: The last shot in the Time War has fired. The Doctor has to deal with the last thing he expected or wanted -- he survived . . . .
Why You Should Read It: I wanna keep
icebluenothing and make him write fic for me all the time. Because I just adore his take on the Doctor. This is such an interesting look at what the Time War might have done, and how deeply it affects him and the universe at large. Such a gorgeous look at companions he might have had and lost, and how that loss shapes him, along with the crushing weight of responsibility that he takes on personally, whether its deserved or not. But what I like best is the sense of hope it still ends on, because hope is as much a part of the Doctor as the despair.
It'll Be Alright by
sarah531
Summary: For the past year, Trisha Delaney had noticed the signs.
Why You Should Read It: Such a gorgeous look at a character that's only been mentioned in passing, and even then not as a person so much as a representation of Mickey & Rose's relationship. I love how sarah builds a character out of these references that feels real and substantial and worth learning about, and then uses that character to show us something about the characters we do know from the series.
Subtle Chemistry by
doona_rose
Summary: The Doctor (10) tries to explain to Rose just why he likes Chemistry so much.
Why You Should Read It: The first in a series of Doctor/Rose stories which posits a very believable Tenth Doctor (and added bonus of mental image of Tennant in white labcoat). I love love love how she builds the characters relationship on what we know, grounding it in the characters we know and love, and then spins it off in a way I can see immediately. Plus major props for science as metaphor. Just a charming, charming series.
(You Know Your Problem?) You Keep It All In by dionysos_loop
Summary: One can be a divisor, too.
Why You Should Read It: There's been a lot of discussion generated in the last few years in the fandom (moreso lately, obviously, due to the Ninth Doctor being a lot more overly flirty than his previous incarnations) regarding the Doctor and whether or not he has ever actually been portrayed as "asexual" or whether that's how fandom has read into the source material based on individuals relative comfort zones with the idea of the Doctor actually having desires (let alone acting on them). This story kinda sorta takes that idea, turns it up to 15, and makes you snatch your hand back, suck on your scorched fingers, and go "wtf just happened?" right before you go "holy shit, that was amazing."
Open Your Eyes by
elen_ancalima
Summary: Rose is having trouble dealing with the regeneration...
Why You Should Read It: You may have noticed a trend in the rec'ing of POTW tags. Sorry, but obviously until Christmas, we'll be seeing a lot of them in the fandom. That said, I do really like reading different authors' takes on similar situations. In this case, Rose dealing with change. There's one bit that I truly adore in this, and it's how proud Rose is of her mum and Mickey, for their part in helping her get back to the Doctor. I love that bit leik whoa. I also love exactly how the Doctor helps Rose get over the shock of the regen. It ends on a lovely feeling of hope, which I really like.
Memories by
xanthelj
Summary: Some men want to remember - while others just want to forget.
Why You Should Read It: If the Doctor is all about Gallifrey go BOOM, then Jack tends to be all about those missing 2 years. And I like how those two are contrasted and compared here, because they both make strong men vulnerable, but also empathetic to each other. Also, I like hearing the Doctor talk about Gallifrey. It's the exact lack of sentimentality that sort of makes the loss more keen. I'm not so much for the psychic!sex thing, but I like the character stuff in the first half of this muchly.
Long Way Around by
butterflykiki
Summary: The face is different, the voice is different, but you're still the Doctor. And you still owe me a drink.
Why You Should Read It: Two words: Amanda and Methos (whom I still think of as Adam, due to 'Methos' sounding like a breath mint. Sorry HL fandom...). Lots of crossover-y fun--with a neat twist at the end which I won't give away just yet.
The Archive by dionysos_loop
Summary: A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Why You Should Read It: omg creepy librarians of doom! Wonderful plotty gen, with some lovely heroics, character bits, and all in all, reads like a missing episode.
Momento Vita by
katemonkey
Summary: She keeps his jacket in her room.
Why You Should Read It: I'm not always so much with the jacket!fic post POTW, but I like how this shows Rose and Jack turning to one another to deal.
Prism by Rain
Summary: Glass pyramids, weird aliens and human nature...
Why You Should Read It: OMG more plotty gen! I really like the plot, too. The story could use a solid beta, but all in all, a really enjoyable adventure.
Chrysalis by
sangga
Summary: They are, both of them, evolving.
Why You Should Read It: Beautiful little character snippets that add up to a gorgeous whole, and I adore the dialogue in particular.
More Than Years by
brokensorrows
Summary: Contemplation of the age gap between them.
Why You Should Read It: This is more of a sketch than a proper story, but there some lovely stuff in it about what the gap between the Doctor and Rose actually is and isn't, if that makes any kind of sense.
Pull by
ratmist
Summary: He's already said his good-byes.
Why You Should Read It: Just a gorgeous look at the Ninth Doctor right at the end. Beautiful play of language, and I love how his voice comes through in the prose.
I Speak For Gallifrey by
calapine
Summary: Time travel, and an option it provides.
Why You Should Read It: I remember when I re-read this while I was doing my MAD noms and wanted desperately to nom it for canon except that technically, it's not a story about the Ninth Doctor so much as it's a story about the First Doctor, and also, it's not really about the first Doctor so much as it's a story about a choice someone else had to make that is a helluva thing, and I can't say anything more without spoiling. But holy. crap. so. cool.
slightly psychic confessions by
casirafics
Summary: Psychic paper can be dangerous.
Why You Should Read It: I wonder if RTD had any idea what smut would follow, when he introduced this little prop. And this is some amazingly lovely written sexy threesome goodness. I love the bruised knees, and the closeness of the TARDIS trio through it all.

23 July 2005 @ 13:24
Okay, I just spent the last 3 hours or so, trying to decide on my nominations for the MAD Awards being run by
amchau,
loneraven and
hathy_col.
Dude. This was hard. But here's what I finally went with (with runners up included cos I just had SUCH the hard time chosing for a lot of the categories.)
( nominations )
I really wish there were categories for "missing scene/coda" and "minor/supporting character" cos I really debated some of these for ages before going with my final noms... And I found msyelf really strapped for websites, cos all my fannish interaction has been on LJ, in comms.

I really need to do this more often, and remember to write them up as I find them, instead of waiting a month and then spending three days working on it once a month...

Baiting by
lizbetann and Let the Good Times Roll by
diannelemerc
Summary: Both at once or not at all. Poor Jack.
Why You Should Read It: The horsechicks have joined the party! And they've brought smut! Really good smut. At Mardis Gras in the next millenium, no less. I love the horsechicks. And I want a chameleon mask of my very own.
The Terminus of Prayer by
cadhla
Summary: Snapshots taken as the center fails to hold
Why You Should Read It: Gorgeous peeks into the TARDIS crew and their loved ones, but most of all the Doctor, and why he can't make the choice he did once before.
What Does the Sky Reply? by
cadhla
Summary: Let go of the man you remember, and hold onto the one you have.
Why You Should Read It: Beautiful post-regen story featuring Ace, which I love.
Culture Crash by
cadhla
Summary: Beware the random women in bunny fur bikinis.
Why You Should Read It: I got the biggest kick out of this for the sheer entertainment value of Jack and Leela.
So Impressive by
doona_rose
Summary: Cabin fever.
Why You Should Read It: What can I say? I'm a sucker for silly, sexy fun. Sometimes you need a story about being half-contortionist and being bored with nothing to do. The ending is a touch predictable, but I like the journey.
Language And The Kiss by
lilka
Summary: Rose is kissing Jack again.
Why You Should Read It: Bittersweet post-regen story that shows how Jack and ROse are coping (or not coping) with the new Doctor.
Five People Jack Could Have Fallen in Love With But Didn't by
kataclysmic
Summary: Two years he's forgotten, fucks in alleys and run-down motels, sledging on frozen waves, and six months spent in London in 2006.
Why You Should Read It: IMG SIMON TAM OMG. OMG FAITH OMG!!! And even if you don't recognise all the players, it's still quite a ride. And Jack is, as always, perfectly Jack.
Moving in Numbers by
thegreatesthits
Summary: He'd promised her that.
Why You Should Read It: Lovely, beautifully drawn look at different aspects of the trio's characters, including one-off and supporting characters.
Local Customs by
mireille719
Summary: It's always best to check the local customs.
Why You Should Read It: I am always vastly entertained by "Jack almost gets married" stories, and mir does some lovely world-building in this that feels just like classic Who. Beautiful dynamic between the trio.
The Child That Time Made by
calapine
Summary: The Doctor is gone and Rose is alone, left with a child she doesn’t want.
Why You Should Read It: Okay, it's baby!fic. But it's baby!fic from calapine, which somehow makes this hackney'd plot work for me. Also, it's very reminiscent of Susan in "Unearthly Child", in a way. It's also treacle-free, without any of the OTT purple-prose angst that is frequently mistaken for "deep" in fandom.
By Any Other by
casirafics
Summary: The new man who's been wearing his name has not been wearing his coat.
Why You Should Read It: Okay, there's a trend in post-regen fic to have Rose hang onto Nine's coat. It's a trend that bothers me, mainly cos it usually feels like the author hanging onto Nine and not giving Ten a fair shake, not to mention completely underestimating both Rose and the Doctor. However, in this story? It absolutely works for me, because I love her take on Ten & Rose, as a continuation-but-not-quite of Nine & Rose's comfortable and familair dynamic, but allowing for the inevitable subtle changes associated with regeneration. It's just a lovely look at what-might-be.
Trouble by exid
Summary: Jack knows trouble when he sees it.
Why You Should Read It: Jack! Beautiful, stunning, spot-on Jack! It's really just a novelisation of that last scene in "The Doctor Dances" but it's got some beautiful Jack characterisation which I really enjoyed.
After Ever Happily by
loneraven
Summary: Once upon a time.
Why You Should Read It: Raven calls it fluff, but there's some lovely character stuff in this, executed with ehr usual light touch. It's lyrical without being sappy, and makes you smile without drowning you in sugar-y sweetness.
Adam by
sarah531
Summary: When Adam Mitchell was nineteen, he met a nice girl called Rose.
Why You Should Read It: Lovely short little glimpse into Adam's past, present, and future.
Women Wept (We Laughed There) by
juleskicks
Summary: Sometimes she noticed the cold, yeah, and sometimes she didn't. Sometimes she was just too busy being amazed.
Why You Should Read It: Just a lovely look at the scene Rose explained to Mickey in "Boom Town" that is deeply rooted in who Rose is, and her and the Doctor's relationship. Gorgeous exploration of Rose's sense of wonder, peppered with lvoely little details that make the scene real for the readers.
Forgetting the Nightmare by
casirafics
Summary: Jack's haunted by his missing two years.
Why You Should Read It: I'm really warming to Jack/Doctor, and this piece makes me actually believe it in a way a lot of the escapist fare (while enormously fun to read) doesn't.
Anywhere But Here by
mactink
Summary: If you could be anywhere but here with anyone you wanted, where would you be and what would you be doing?
Why You Should Read It: Lovely little Jack & Rose bonding moment, as they wait for rescue.
Breaking the Rules by
boro_girl
Summary: I remake the world for your sake.
Why You Should Read It: Lyrical and interesting look at Rose with the vortex, and how she loves.
Piece Me Back Together by Angel Leviathan
Summary: Rose learns a lesson.
Why You Should Read It: I like the way the Doctor & Rose's relationship works in this little snippet. It borrows a fair bit from "Father's Day" but feels like a solid continuation, emotionally. And it's always nice to see Rose as flawed, instead of with a shiny little halo.
This Kiss by
dallyra
Summary: Rose is getting her memory back in bits and pieces, and finally asks the Doctor about a worrying missing bit.
Why You Should Read It: While we've not really seen enough of Ten to know what might happen, I did like how this played out. It's sweet, without being overly cloying.
Shall We Dance? by
dallyra
Summary: They had danced together every day.
Why You Should Read It: Gorgeous exploration of the Doctor and Rose's relationship, extending the dancing metaphor without every beating it to death. Just graceful and lovely.
Welcome Aboard by
hooly4slad
Summary: Jack's first night aboard the TARDIS.
Why You Should Read It: Excellent insight into Jack, and just some wonderful dialogue (and flirting) between Jack and the Doctor.
Libertine by
libertinette
Summary: He bowed his head a little when he touched her for the first time.
Why You Should Read It: Possibly one of the hotetst stories I've seen, but it's got a kind of poetry to it that most of the smut in the fandom has been lacking which sets it apart. Lovely Rose-voice, and the bits of dialogue feel true.
Once Upon A Time by
tangledwood
Summary: She tells herself a story.
Why You Should Read It: Gorgeous, gorgeous Jabefic.
Deshabille by
sangga
Summary: Her mum always told her to dress for the occasion. It just takes Rose a while to figure out what the occasion is.
Why You Should Read It: Map of Rose's life with the Doctor, via apparel. It's just a beautiful look though snapshots that will have you smiling and catching your breath at the end.
Good-bye Hello by
mswyrr
Summary: The trip to Barcelona had got postponed a day.
Why You Should Read It: Lovely post-regen story which shows a light touch with the characters, and has some beautiful characterisation.
Only With Her by
doylefan22
Summary: He’s like you except with dating and dancing.
Why You Should Read It: You all know how I feel about song fic. Which is why this is the rare exception for me. Just a lovely post-ep coda to "The Doctor Dances."
Outside In by
doylefan22
Summary: After a year of travelling together there is still one place Rose has yet to explore...
Why You Should Read It: I lvoe seeing more of the TARDIS, and I liked the progression of the DOctor and Rose's relationship in this a great deal.

doylefan22
Summary: The world doesn't end.
Why You Should Read It: Yes, it's another first kiss story. It's a scenario that's been done numerous times in this fandom but I like Anya's take on it.
A Normal Life by
doylefan22
Summary: A trip home has near dire consequences.
Why You Should Read It: I love how Anya took a throw-away line in "Rose" and fleshed out Jimmy Stones as a real person.
Roundabout by
casirafics
Summary: Some feel too much for their own good.
Why You Should Read It: Beautiful, beautiful portrait through snapshots of Rose life with the Doctor, and I love the structure of it.
The Best Thing For You by
wishfulaces
Summary: Jack is nothing if not persistent.
Why You Should Read It: Lovely, love snippet of Jack, always trying. There's some beautiful dialogue and characterisation of both Jack and the Doctor in this.
To The End by
nostalgia_lj
Summary: The stars are dark and the universe is cold. She finds a corner of warmth and settles down to die.
Why You Should Read It: OMG TARDIS FIC! *teh luv*
Companion Piece by
bigtitch
Summary: When Rose is away, the guys will play.
Why You Should Read It: Silly, sexy, slashy fun.
Moment of Weakness by
ponygirl72
Summary: POTW missing scene.
Why You Should Read It: Just a nice what-might-have-been missing scene snippet with Jack and Rose being there for the Doctor.
The Candle That Burns Brightest by
icebluenothing
Summary: She can change the story.
Why You Should Read It: Fantastic almost-AU for the end of POTW that shows us the life Rose might have led, and how all her steps always lead back to the Doctor.
Lacey Hooper With The Pierced Ears by
niav
Summary: Jack, post WWIII
Why You Should Read It: Gorgeous peek into Jackie Tyler.
Five Things That Rose Tyler Doesn't Regret by
jeanne_dark
Summary: 5 things AU
Why You Should Read It: Beautiful look at 5 different Rose Tylers.
Dancing by
11nine73
Summary: The Doctor definitely dances.
Why You Should Read It: despite there being a million "dancing" PWPS out there, this one definitely stood out for me. Fun, silly fluff that has a light touch and dialogue that I can actually buy from these two that manages not to come off as trite or ho-hum.
Gen, het, slash, and every combination and permutation thereof. As always... YMMV.
Baiting by
Summary: Both at once or not at all. Poor Jack.
Why You Should Read It: The horsechicks have joined the party! And they've brought smut! Really good smut. At Mardis Gras in the next millenium, no less. I love the horsechicks. And I want a chameleon mask of my very own.
The Terminus of Prayer by
Summary: Snapshots taken as the center fails to hold
Why You Should Read It: Gorgeous peeks into the TARDIS crew and their loved ones, but most of all the Doctor, and why he can't make the choice he did once before.
What Does the Sky Reply? by
Summary: Let go of the man you remember, and hold onto the one you have.
Why You Should Read It: Beautiful post-regen story featuring Ace, which I love.
Culture Crash by
Summary: Beware the random women in bunny fur bikinis.
Why You Should Read It: I got the biggest kick out of this for the sheer entertainment value of Jack and Leela.
So Impressive by
Summary: Cabin fever.
Why You Should Read It: What can I say? I'm a sucker for silly, sexy fun. Sometimes you need a story about being half-contortionist and being bored with nothing to do. The ending is a touch predictable, but I like the journey.
Language And The Kiss by
Summary: Rose is kissing Jack again.
Why You Should Read It: Bittersweet post-regen story that shows how Jack and ROse are coping (or not coping) with the new Doctor.
Five People Jack Could Have Fallen in Love With But Didn't by
Summary: Two years he's forgotten, fucks in alleys and run-down motels, sledging on frozen waves, and six months spent in London in 2006.
Why You Should Read It: IMG SIMON TAM OMG. OMG FAITH OMG!!! And even if you don't recognise all the players, it's still quite a ride. And Jack is, as always, perfectly Jack.
Moving in Numbers by
Summary: He'd promised her that.
Why You Should Read It: Lovely, beautifully drawn look at different aspects of the trio's characters, including one-off and supporting characters.
Local Customs by
Summary: It's always best to check the local customs.
Why You Should Read It: I am always vastly entertained by "Jack almost gets married" stories, and mir does some lovely world-building in this that feels just like classic Who. Beautiful dynamic between the trio.
The Child That Time Made by
Summary: The Doctor is gone and Rose is alone, left with a child she doesn’t want.
By Any Other by
Summary: The new man who's been wearing his name has not been wearing his coat.
After Ever Happily by
Summary: Once upon a time.
Why You Should Read It: Raven calls it fluff, but there's some lovely character stuff in this, executed with ehr usual light touch. It's lyrical without being sappy, and makes you smile without drowning you in sugar-y sweetness.
Adam by
Summary: When Adam Mitchell was nineteen, he met a nice girl called Rose.
Why You Should Read It: Lovely short little glimpse into Adam's past, present, and future.
Women Wept (We Laughed There) by
Summary: Sometimes she noticed the cold, yeah, and sometimes she didn't.
Forgetting the Nightmare by
Summary: Jack's haunted by his missing two years.
Why You Should Read It: I'm really warming to Jack/Doctor, and this piece makes me actually believe it in a way a lot of the escapist fare (while enormously fun to read) doesn't.
Anywhere But Here by
Summary: If you could be anywhere but here with anyone you wanted, where would you be and what would you be doing?
Why You Should Read It: Lovely little Jack & Rose bonding moment, as they wait for rescue.
Breaking the Rules by
Summary: I remake the world for your sake.
This Kiss by
Summary: Rose is getting her memory back in bits and pieces, and finally asks the Doctor about a worrying missing bit.
Why You Should Read It: While we've not really seen enough of Ten to know what might happen, I did like how this played out. It's sweet, without being overly cloying.
Shall We Dance? by
Summary: They had danced together every day.
Why You Should Read It: Gorgeous exploration of the Doctor and Rose's relationship, extending the dancing metaphor without every beating it to death. Just graceful and lovely.
Welcome Aboard by
Summary: Jack's first night aboard the TARDIS.
Why You Should Read It: Excellent insight into Jack, and just some wonderful dialogue (and flirting) between Jack and the Doctor.
Libertine by
Summary: He bowed his head a little when he touched her for the first time.
Why You Should Read It: Possibly one of the hotetst stories I've seen, but it's got a kind of poetry to it that most of the smut in the fandom has been lacking which sets it apart. Lovely Rose-voice, and the bits of dialogue feel true.
Once Upon A Time by
Summary: She tells herself a story.
Why You Should Read It: Gorgeous, gorgeous Jabefic.
Deshabille by
Summary: Her mum always told her to dress for the occasion. It just takes Rose a while to figure out what the occasion is.
Why You Should Read It: Map of Rose's life with the Doctor, via apparel. It's just a beautiful look though snapshots that will have you smiling and catching your breath at the end.
Good-bye Hello by
Summary: The trip to Barcelona had got postponed a day.
Why You Should Read It: Lovely post-regen story which shows a light touch with the characters, and has some beautiful characterisation.
Only With Her by
Summary: He’s like you except with dating and dancing.
Why You Should Read It: You all know how I feel about song fic. Which is why this is the rare exception for me. Just a lovely post-ep coda to "The Doctor Dances."
Outside In by
Summary: After a year of travelling together there is still one place Rose has yet to explore...
Why You Should Read It: I lvoe seeing more of the TARDIS, and I liked the progression of the DOctor and Rose's relationship in this a great deal.
Might Have Been A While by

a truly frightening number of Whovian recs
Need something to tide you over until you can watch "Parting of the Ways"? Does a month's worth of very belated fanfic recs help?

Summary: Rose waits helplessly while the Doctor hovers between life and death, unconscious. But the Doctor's unconscious is a very complicated place...

In Heads and Dreams by
boro_girl
Summary: Tonight she woke up in a sweat, calling out a name. Person, place, she didn't know.

How You Look At It by
margaritar
Summary: It's the playoffs of the intergalactic bean wars, one night in the Tardis.
Why You Should Read It:Let's face it: sex in fanfic (and romance novels) tends to be pure fantasy. But what I love about this kinky little PWP is the humour, the dialogue, and the little touches that made the sex even better for being real.

icebluenothing
Summary: beautiful "Father's Day" post-ep story.
Why You Should Read It: This story puts the Doctor's "alienness" into perspective, and takes every drop of sap out that would make it melodrama, just leaving this amazing perfect moment which just gutted me.

Why You Should Read It: I'm always a bit wary now of "the Doctor and Rose share a bed" stories, but I love this one because it's subtle and shows a light touch.
The Tenth Muse by
Summary: Indications of an alien lifeform bring the Doctor and Rose to Ancient Rome, and a poet creating his masterpiece.
Why You Should Read It: Dirty Latin poetry! How can I not utterly adore any story which has dirty Latin poetry? Just marvellous.
Triangular by
Summary: Rose knows all about love-triangles.
Why You Should Read It: Nifty look at the Jack/Doctor/Rose dynamic, from Rose's POV.
18 Seconds by
Summary: He sees Rose holding her boyfriend, and the TARDIS fades away, leaving her there. "Well," he says, clapping his hands together. "Now what?"
Why You Should Read It: Lovely take on that span of seconds between Rose turning the Doctor down, and accepting in "Rose."
Five Things Which Didn't (In This Timeline) Happen At Jabe's Funeral by
Summary: The Forest of Cheem was full of trees.
Why You Should Read It: Another gorgeous Doctor/Jabe story that just guts me with the beautiful prose.
Claustrophobia by
Summary: Rose and the Doctor have a rescue mission to attend to, whilst Jack acts as a distraction.
Why You Should Read It: Just a lovely moment between the Doctor and Rose that works perfectly. Also, points for fun Jack.
Off Guard by
Summary: Rose had finally got the hang of landings.
Why You Should Read It: This is sexy and beautiful, and has faint echoes of the masked ball sequence in "Labyrinth" and I adore it (and not just cos there's sex wot has actual consequences, and the Doctor in an open-necked tux shirt. Tho that certainly is a factor).
Two Hearts by
Summary: Jack doesn't steal people--he likes to share them.
Why You Should Read It: I'm really madly in love with Doctor/Jack, and this gets the balance of the trio just right. Excellent Jack voice, in particular.
The Gift That Keeps on Giving by
Summary: Humans marked the passage of time in the oddest ways.
Why You Should Read It: Just a lovely and sweet Nine/Rose story that manages not to be treacle-y, but is still just utterly charming.
Distant Heat by
Summary: She missed sex.
Why You Should Read It: I have discovered I have a voyeur!kink. Big time.
Sooner or Later by
Summary: Just after his regeneration, the Ninth Doctor gets some advice from an old friend.
Why You Should Read It: Lovely lovely First and Ninth Doctor interaction.
Curiosity by
Summary: It wasn't that she was pissed, really it wasn't. It was just that she'd been curious for weeks now and she couldn't take the suspense any more.
Why You Should Read It: Adorable and amusing take on Rose getting some questions answered about Time Lords.
Of More Value Than Many Sparrows by
Summary: beautiful "Father's Day" post-ep story.
Why You Should Read It: This story puts the Doctor's "alienness" into perspective, and takes every drop of sap out that would make it melodrama, just leaving this amazing perfect moment which just gutted me.

doylefan22
Summary: As Rose begins to truly realise what a life changing opportunity the Doctor has given her, she also discovers that he is not the only alien to have a fascination with the human race...
Why You Should Read It: I love this story and want to have its babies. It manages to up the UST a touch from the canon level in a believable way, does relationship without treacle, has great pacing, and nails the Doctor and Rose's voices. Just great fun.

Why You Should Read It: Gorgeous coda to "Dalek."

by
infiniteviking

Why You Should Read It: This is utterly beautiful. I love the author's way with language, and this piece turns a fun throw-away comment into a really amazing portrait of Nine.
Flowers for the Doctor
by
loneraven
Summary: Lovely look at what might have been.
Why You Should Read It: As you guys may have noticed by my near-worship of Donnie Darko, I have a weakness for self-annulling tangent timelines that just break your heart. Goddam, this is beautiful.

Why You Should Read It: This just shows a gorgeous light touch, and real grace.
Domestic Battleground

Why You Should Read It: Just an absolute giggle. Particularly the "father figure" line.

Why You Should Read It: Gorgeous insight into the Doctor's character.
Intergalactic Playboy
by
lm_jillybean
Summary: As Rose lies in a coma, the Doctor replays their last days in his head, picking apart everything he did wrong.
Why You Should Read It: The later chapters feel a bit rushed, but there are just some gorgeous moments in this. And it's nice to see a first kiss that's not drowned in syrup, but feel organic and believable.
Broken

doylefan22
Summary: Rose is finding it hard to come to terms with the events of "Father's Day" and the Doctor doesn't know what to do about it.
Why You Should Read It: Lovely "Father's Day" coda that isn't drowning in angst, but feels just right for the characters.

The Doctor had Read Books, but must have skimmed over this part.
Why You Should Read It: Sexy and funny.
Not The End Of The World by sarah531
Summary: Mickey grows up.
Why You Should Read It: Lovely little post-"Rose" Mickey-fic, which gives him a bit of perspective.
Among Her Own Kind by drox
Summary: Rose figures out where she fits in, after "End of the World."
Why You Should Read It: Plumbers! Of the FUTURE! Just some lovely banter, with an excellent grasp of both characters.
Becoming by Calapine
Summary: Death is his constant companion.
Why You Should Read It: Interesting (and dire) little story here...
Just a Twinge of Cosmic Angst by Dangermom
Summary: The Doctor reflects on his past lives and companions.
Why You Should Read It: Lovely moment of introspection.
Lost by ruthybee
Summary: Mickey's police report.
Why You Should Read It: Ladies and gents, the slash has officially arrived. And she actually makes me buy it (for this story--not so much in canon). That takes mad skillz.
Also, in case you haven't yet, why not sign up for the The Ninth Doctor ficathon?
(just so's peoples knows, I don't usually rec WIPs... Just finished work. I figure, you can't really judge a story until it's all there, yeah? Also, I may not be doing this on a regular basis, considering what all happened the last time I tried to maintain a recs page)
