I was very surprised that this was the finale, as the announcer told us, frankly, until I worked out that I’d forgotten to catch up on 5.21 (and the truth is, I was almost not bothered enough to bother).

5.22 Red John’s Rules

spoilers for everythingCollapse )

5.21 Red and itchy

Oh my god, okay, I promise, I do feel bad about recurring here twice yearly at most, but-- Into Darkness. I had no choice but to pop up.

Elementary: I got to watch the first hour before I had to leave for work, which turned out to be a TERRIBLE IDEA because CLIFFHANGER. And then I had to avoid the internet until after I'd seen the second hour. THE HARDSHIPS OF MY LIFE. SIGH. Spoilers!Collapse )

Excellent first season!

*~*~*

Doctor Who: In which Moffat's excesses prove to be his undoing.Collapse )

*~*~*

I really like how The Borgias features Lucrezia in political settings: it puts her into scenes with men, most often of the ruling class (a class she is also in, by virtue of her family), who interact with her just as you'd imagine they'd interact with anyone who shared their class--politely, even deferentially--but, simultaneously, with a specific brand of condescension and/or outright vitriol that's provoked entirely by the fact that she's a woman. (See: the King of Naples's toast to her and her new husband's marriage in 3.05, and her chess game with the aspiring King of Naples in 3.07.) Lucrezia can be smooth and charming and intellectually equal to these men (or, frequently, superior to them), yet you can see their dismissal of her skimming through every word they speak to her.

I tell you what, it does wonders for making us sympathise with her predilection for poisons.

In other news: oh, Micheletto, your love life is tragic. Which, granted, puts him in good company on this show, but still.

*~*~*

I rewatched DaVinci's Inquest's 'Banging on the Wall' this week. (Thank you, Canadian Bravo, for syndicating this show at exactly the right hour for me to catch an episode before I go to bed.)

I wish this ep were available on YouTube so I could share it. The scene where DaVinci lets the father of the dead 8-year-old with heroin in her system know what happened to her without spelling it out explicitly--followed by his scene with drunken, obsessive Mr Steadman--is pretty much the epitome of Selfless Humanity In The Face Of Hardship. Dominic absolutely had his failings, but even when he was caught in a fit of malaise, he found both the time and the emotional energy to be there for people who were going through the worst experiences of their lives.

Besides which, this was part of the buildup to the whole Mick's Emotional Crisis storyline, which was extremely well done for a storyline that essentially boiled down to Manpain.

It's been two years since I updated This is Home, and having seen the movie (which was both really enjoyable and super disappointing) I've decided to put together the biggest, most absurdly thorough Fic Amnesty post ever. I have scenes, half-written chapters, outlines, notes, and IM conversations all sitting in a sub-folder, waiting to be organized.

I can't finish This is Home. And for that I'm very sorry. But I do this: I can post the entirety of my notes and the final chapter.

RL is kicking my ass right now. Mostly in good ways (though my uterus can GTFO), but it's frustrating because I have a lot of fannish thoughts happening, and I need to write some fic, and argh, no time, no time. I did, however, sneak off to see the J.J. Abrams movie on Thursday, and since I've had a number of PMs and emails asking me what I thought, I will say this. For the most part, I agree with this review by [personal profile] liviapenn 100%, both good and bad.

The funny thing, though, is that my baseline reaction wasn't related to any of that. It wasn't really about the movie at all. It was about me, and my relationship to Star Trek, and to the Kirk and Spock I fell in love with when I was 12. And it comes down to this.

Tiny spoilers for the movie.Collapse )

I agree with everything that [personal profile] liviapenn says, and yet, for me, it's this simple reversal that's the telling thing. It was the first part (Spock's parents) that got me with the first movie, and it's the second part that got me with this one. For me, it comes down to my inner 12-year-old—what can I say?

I slept a lot today. Morgan went to see Star Trek (he's being very good and not telling me anything about it; I am hopefully going with my iWife once she gets here) and then spent some time wandering around Alderwood Mall, and I took advantage of him being gone to...no, I lie, I didn't do anything except sleep and take a shower.

But we did get some cleaning done tonight so the place is ready for people to come over for game tomorrow (this one is being run by Schmallturm, with Spoo, Morgan, and Strahd playing--Spoo's fiancee A is supposedly in but has had to pull back due to wedding and school plans, so she'll drop in as she can) and then we went to the grocery store and bought all the groceries and now we're home, and I should probably eat something. And I just realized three things I forgot at the store. *facepalm* It can wait until tomorrow.

Tomorrow I am working and then coming home to the game, and then Monday I have a waxing appointment after work and then will come home and clean out my car, and then Tuesday I'm working the morning shift so after work I can head down to Seatac and pick up my iWife :D I cannot wait to see her.

But first, I need to eat something and drink moar water to fix my headache and maybe get some writing done.

I went to my first women's bjj seminar today, and it was AWESOME. I am really lucky to have ~10 women to train with on a regular basis, but well, I know all of them. And I am sort of familiar with their game, even if I'm not good enough to beat it yet. But we had 20+ women from all up and down the East Coast at the seminar, which meant 10 NEW WOMEN to roll with! It was great! I rolled with a few white belts and blue belts, and one brown belt who was just super nice and encouraging and told me I was tough. eee! ( I have a weird complex where secretly all I want to do in life is Be Tough, so that hit me right in my emotions spot.)

blah blah jiujitsu blah feelings blahCollapse )

I've had to put the various fics I've been writing for The Hobbit aside for the time being (they all keep growing, and growing, and growing, and...), in order to focus on stories that, well, have deadlines. Deadlines such as, uh, this coming Wednesday.

... yeah. *headdesk* The day I start my new job. Perfect timing, isn't it?

Anyway, would anyone be willing to beta a Marvel fic for me? It's for cap_ironman, so there is some Steve/Tony, although it's more friendship than 'ship. PG-13(ish). Final wordcount is probably going to be somewhere around ~10,000.

It's a non-superhero AU, with characterization stemming from a combination of 616 and MCU depending on whether or not said character has a MCU counterpart. (Hint: the MCU doesn't have enough women in it for my tastes, so I borrowed some from 616.)

I'll have the story to you by tomorrow. I'm trying to get it finished tonight, but I'm getting tired so I might have to put it off until in the morning before I can finish up the last bit.

Oh, this show. ♥

So, yes, I know that I haven't really been talking about it much, but I've been keeping up with Elementary as the new episodes have aired. And the season finale was pretty much everything I was hoping for and then some.

I'm really hoping that next season stays as strong as this season has been. If I can get through the first half of the second season of a procedural on CBS, the odds are that I'm going to stick with it for the long haul. There have only been a handful where I've lasted through that breaking point, though; it's much more common for me to throw my hands up and give up on a CBS show within a few episodes of S2 starting.

I guess we'll find out in three or four months?

18 May 2013 @ 21:00
Okay, so, overall? I really enjoyed the movie. I've seen it twice already, and I honestly don't understand the people who say that it didn't feel like Star Trek. I mean, no, it didn't feel like an episode of a Star Trek TV show. But a Star Trek movie? It really did feel like one, to me at least. Keeping in mind that I see ST movies and ST television series as completely different entities, even when the movies are based on/feature characters from the TV series, because they feel completely different.

(That said, if you're one of the people who hated the movie because it didn't feel like Trek to you -- and not for casting reasons because, believe me, that I can definitely understand -- then I'd rather you didn't try to explain why. I don't get it, but I honestly don't want to get it. It's kind of like how I feel about people trying to argue that DS9 isn't the best Trek series. We're just going to have to agree to disagree and be done with it.)

Now that I've said that much, I will admit that I'm still extremely uncomfortable with the decision to cast and the spoilers begin.Collapse )

But, yes, that aspect of the movie was definitely problematic for me. And I'll be the first to admit that, if I were to think about things too hard, there are probably dozens of plot holes just begging to be pointed out. Still, I really did like the movie as a whole.

So. Now that I've dealt with the negative, I suppose it's time for the positive. Once again, spoilers.Collapse )

It is 1.45 am and I have turned my laptop back on after 2 hours of desperately trying to get to sleep or even just to block out the noise of downstairs man's birthday party. I cannot do this because he is a complete and total dick and his music is so loud. I have no idea how the people at the party are even talking to each other.

Someone else has music on somewhere (I think it is upstairs? I normally presume next door but it's not his type of music at all) and I can't say I blame them. I had my mp3 player on for a while but had to give up. I don't want to listen to music, I don't want to be on the laptop, I want to be ASLEEP.

I actually went down to ask him to turn it down at 11.45, which is when he explained it was his birthday. I was going to go down at 1.30 but I got outside the door and I could hear a lot of dudes outside and ok, there's probably nothing to worry about but I didn't really feel comfortable going down to talk to neighbour when I'm in my pyjamas, let alone neighbour and a bunch of dudes I don't know.

I think it's getting even louder so I'm going to try again. Will just have to deal with it.

Hi, I'm looking for a few different fics

1. Clint and Coulson are married or live together... The team doesn't know though, and one day Coulson doesn't come into work...the team arrives at his house shortly before he comes home having just rescued clint. I think maybe Clint was disabled in some way... Anyone know this or one like it?

2. Steve and Clint are locked up together. The cell is filthy and Clint gets sick while there. Steve tries to take care of him and keep him safe.

3. Any fics where Clint has trouble meshing with the team... Maybe he has social anxiety or something... Or low self esteem... The team my even be cold to him or exclude him... But then someone or somehow they find out how great clint really is, or how hard his life has been and things get better.

4. Any fics where team members are protective of clint!

thanks to anyone who responds!

  • Arya rescues Gendry (as a side note, I loved that about five minutes after Gendry and that other dude are chuckling over Arya not liking Melisandre, like, 'ladies hate ladies, don't ya know, ha ha', Melisandre buys Gendry and I'm like, 'nope, Arya didn't like Melisandre because Arya SAW THE FUCKING PSCYHO CRAZY*. Taught a (brief) class at 8:15 this morning, then dashed across town to the middle school, so I could attend the commencement ceremony. I hadn't attended commencement when I completed my Master's, so it was my first time in regalia since I got my BA eleven years ago. Since I knew the ceremony would be long, I had a big (for me) breakfast (2 scones, 5 crackers with cheese slices, and 1 apple) and half a glass of water at around 6:30AM, and nothing else. I didn't want to have to pee in the middle of the ceremony. But I'm a caffeine addict. So it wasn't long before I was feeling dehydrated as well as under-caffeinated.

The ceremony went until 12:30, at which point I doffed my regalia, dashed home, and brewed myself a big pot of coffee and gulped down several glasses of water, plus a few Ibuprofens. :\ At 3:37, the throbbing in my head is finally starting to lessen.

I'd had plans to go for a long bike ride after the ceremony - and I may still, if I'm feeling better in an hour - but since I felt like crap, I curled up with the last few episodes of "Elementary."

Im looking for a story that I read years ago. It was a series. It was not quite a Pretender crossover, but the stories used from the show's themes  heavily.

  1. Clint used to be a Pretender

  2. they find the center and somehow tony ends up with all the kids

  3. he buys them a farm house

  4. they go shopping in Macy's everyone keeps thinking that tony is going to further fuck up the kids but he does great,

  5. Clint realizes that he worked through tony's kidnapping as a kid when he was a pretender,

  6. a lot of the kids were genetically Steve,

  7. Steve found out that tony was a twin i think but the twin dies of blue baby. .

  8. It is MCU verse

  9. It is not the one with the little girl clone of steve's that they name Maria after the civil war.

  10. It was posted on Archive of our own

I have very specific memories of a few scenes  but no memory of the actual plot. Any help would be awesome.
