I watched Robin Hood. Um... it's fun? It's not Doctor Who, but then, Doctor Who (2005) didn't really ping for me until the second ep anyway...
I sort of cringed a wee tiny bit at some of the history. Cos... sheriff or no, NO ONE smacks down an Earl like that. Seriously. Cos they're EARLS. (But then again, thanks to writing way too much RoS fanfic as a teenager, I know way way way too much about David of Huntingdon to deal well with Robin of Locksley AS the Earl of Hungtingdon and not just some random Saxon Dude instead... And this Huntingdon? So not the brother of William the Lion of Scotland. It's, like, parallel universe Huntingdon in the World Without Shrimp Where Dyers Have 25 Year Old Unmarried Daughters And Swords or something). And I kept say "silver marks" every time the sheriff said "pounds" and "serf" every time Guy said "peasant". But I can't help it. IT'S NICK GRACE. He IS the Sheriff for me, more than anyone else. (And yes, I do mean Rickman. Speak not to me of the Kevins. Or Pen Densham. I WILL CUT YOU, BITCH.) But it's goofy Saturday swash-buckle-y fun, complete with a suitibly Errol Flynn-y score. Tho if they keep the SFX every time a new title screen comes up, I will stab someone in the head with a fork.
Robin's adorable, tho Jonas Armstrong at 25 seems younger to me than 22 year old Michael Praed did. Armstrong's Robin reminds me very much of a young version of Patrick Bergin's (which if you've never seen, is a FANTASTICLY FUN movie, tho alas, only a PG cut is available on DVD, which cut out all the naughty bits like jokes about nuns, sodomy, and one weird plot point involving a Welshman meeting Prince John). He's not shown much in the way of acting chops yet, but he's cute as a button and doesn't make me want to murder anyone.
I suspect I shall fall madly in love with Sam Troughton's Much, tho. Yay Grandson of Trout! I like him SO much better in this than creepy weird demon priest guy in Hex. His Much is very Alan Tudyk from "A Knight's Tale." Actually, the pilot feels like it is very much the SAME England as "A Knight's Tale" in a lot of ways. Including shooting in Eastern Europe. Because nothing says downtrodden serf bled dry by the Lionheart's holy war like Hungarian extras, apparently. Marion needs work. MAJOR MAJOR WORK. But Alan a Dale's a keeper. Scarlet and Luke are non-entities for me thus far, so no word yet. Gisburne and the Sheriff are fun. OTT, but fun. I may need an icon, if this is to become weekly viewing. I know I made a few at one point I just can't find them.
ETA: I lied. Richard I won't need ransoming until Christmas 1192, and this takes place in April. I suck at Plantagenets, apparently.
