If I worked for Simon & Shuster making Star Trek covers, this would be the The Children of Kings cover.

(And really, Spock ought to be replaced with Boyce, since oh I dunno, it's Boyce's wacky Orion Syndicate adventure but I figure, you gotta have either Kirk or Spock onna cover for people to know it's omg Star Trek...)

I have a backlog of freelance work that kinda precludes me doing this very often. But I was amused because the caps they used on the real covers I'm pretty sure came from the HD caps section of Trekcore.com and I already had all of the "The Menagerie" HD caps on my harddrive...

Nothing can really ever come close to that three months where I churned out Doctor Who fan covers like my life depended on it. But I had a blast with my reboot Vulcan's Glory cover, and the plan was originally to do a slew of them for Trek Novel Fest, but Real Life got in the way.

And if I wrote Star Trek novels, I think I'd insist you did the cover art. That looks terrific.

I used the actual cover as a guide, so it's not *really* an original layout. But Number One never gets tie-in love! Number One NEEDS LOVE.

I love this cover! But who is Pike setting afire with his eyes?

Alas, I have no idea as the book doesn't come out 'til the end of April. it's the same cap they used in the the real cover.

WOW.
An artist in two media. I'm so jealous.

Thanks. Sometimes fan art isn't so different what I do in my day job. Lately, I haven't been manipping/making covers/etc. because my freelance work and day job have kept me way too busy. Hence just manipping icons lately.

Can I hire you as my cover designer? Like, permanently? Wherever I go?
ljc: star trek (snog)taraljc on 11th November 2009 16:44 (UTC)
But I love the Froud cover of Knife! it's awesome!

But, yes. You can so totally hire me as your cover designer. Now, if only your publishers loved me half so much...

Oh yes, of course I love my Froud covers! I just meant for future projects. :)

What program do you use to make those? I'd love to be able to do manips but it's probably way beyond the scope of my incredibly outdated Digital Image Pro.

And I totally just spent way too much time at Trekcore geeking out over those screencaps.

At the moment, Photoshop CS4. I basically have All the Fancy, due to my day job.

The current TOS books logo is giving me fits--I can't find downloadable vector art of it. I mean, I found it in the form of what looks like an Illustrator PDF of page proofs for another novel. But it's not downloadable (due to, you know, PIRACY. The thing of it is, I don't want to pirate the book. Hell, if I thought I'd be able to access the PDF, I'd quite happily buy the book. I just am making grabby hands at the beautiful, clean vector logo).

Okay... it's actually really sad that I'm trolling pirate book sites, hoping to find vector art OF A LOGO.
